Capsule Wardrobe – why I don’t think much of it

Capsule Wardrobe - why I can't hear it any more

For years, almost every stylist has been referring to the “Capsule Wardrobe” as the holy grail for more style and sustainability.

In my eyes, the Capsule Wardrobe is a failed attempt to give a universal patent recipe for everyone.

Find out why I don’t think much of the “Capsule Wardrobe” here:

1. Pointless generalisations

Usually, certain items of clothing are recommended as “must-haves” for a Capsule Wardrobe. For example, according to an article in Vogue:

From my point of view, these investments are wasted money and effort!

In other words, the absolute opposite of what I stand for with my style coaching at Personality & Style.

Namely, that you can feel like yourself with ease and style.

Let’s face it, even if some of the recommended clothes in the “Capsule Wardrobe” fit you, at least 1/3 to 3/4 of the recommended clothes are zero-zero suitable for you or formulated far too generally.

In addition, there are many unanswered questions when buying.

2. Not everyone is made for minimalism

Limiting oneself to a few garments does not work for everyone without creating a feeling of lack.

There are people who want to draw from the full. People who like to see fullness in their lives. And for them, a small wardrobe feels like a limitation of their possibilities and even not a relief.

I have been able to help many of my clients find the right balance between variety and overview.

3. Your style type plays a role in equipment and scope

For example, if you only have one of the basic types such as classic, sporty, sensual or natural in your style personality, your wardrobe will probably be somewhat smaller without running out of combination options.

However, for a person who combines many different types in their style profile or perhaps even has a luxury theme, it almost follows by itself that there is simply more variety here.

What we don’t need are even more generalisations – as different as we are. Where does that leave your character, your personality?

What we need is a revolution of the "Capsule Wardrobe"!

No “Capsule Wardrobe”, not more standard uniforms.

What we need is an “Individual Wardrobe”! A wardrobe that doesn’t lump us all together, but a wardrobe that suits you, your life and your style type. And its contents can look very different, both in terms of how it is stocked and the extent to which it is stocked.

Everyone who wants to feel authentic and attractive deserves it.

My conclusion on the "Capsule Wardrobe"

It’s not the size that matters, but rather how much joy you feel when combining and wearing your clothes. And that comes all by itself when your wardrobe only has well-fitting favourite pieces ready for you that make you glow: A wardrobe full of possibilities that is just made for you!
